Tonight, after coming home, I was moving some stuff out to our pump house. Opening the door to the pump house, I noticed it was warmer in there than it ever has been before. The well pump was running, and by the feel of things had been for some time.

After checking to make sure we didn’t have any water running anywhere, and I unplugged the pump. It is hot. Too hot to touch. I have no idea how long it has been running, but quite possibly most of the day.

I don’t really know what is wrong with it right now. Is our well dry? Is the pump not sucking water? Is pressure off in the tank? We’ll have to call a professional, as we don’t understand enough about the system to diagnose it.

I guess I’ll be learning. I hope we can handle it fairly quick, being out of water is really no fun.
